I was hunting with my son the weekend after Thanksgiving 2012. He texted me at 9:30 wanting to know if he could shoot a turkey. I said sure and a couple of minutes later I heard the boom. A few minutes later he texted me again. “Dad, there is a huge buck headed straight for your plot!” About 5 minutes later there he was!
I have had buck fever several times in the past, but nothing like this. I had to bleat 7 or 8 times to get him to stop, and as soon as he did, I let the lead fly. I knew I hit him, but I was still nervous. He ran and I watched where he went into the brush.
I waited an hour before I got out of the stand. I walked to where he was when I shot and found foamy frothy blood and lung tissue. I felt better then. I followed the trail and found him about 60 yards from where I shot him. He is a buck of a lifetime and I feel truly blessed to have had the chance to take him. My son is still mad at me!!!!!
